Octogenarian from Limbang sole Covid-19 casualty as Sarawak logs 55 new cases today

KUCHING, Dec 8: An octogenarian from Limbang was the only Covid-19 fatality in Sarawak today, while the number of new cases in the State dropped to 55 from 71 reported yesterday.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) report, the 87-year old man who had hypertension and heart disease succumbed to Covid-19 on Dec 4.


This brings the Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak to 1,598.

A total of 55 new Covid-19 cases reported in the State brought the cumulative number of positive cases in Sarawak to 251,411.

Two out of the 55 new cases were in the critical stages of Category 3, 4 and 5 while the remaining 53 new cases were classified in Category 1 and 2.

Two patients in Category 5 required intubation while none in Category 4 and 3 required breathing support or had pneumonia.

There were 34 patients in Category 2 with mild symptoms and 19 asymptomatic patients classified in Category 1.

Kuching ranked top in terms of districts which recorded new cases and the sole district which reported double digit figures with 19 cases.

This was followed by Bintulu with five cases, Limbang (5), Miri (4), Sibu (4), Lundu (3), Serian (2), Bau (2), Sri Aman (2), Dalat (2), Kanowit (2), Samarahan (1), Lawas (1), Kapit (1), Beluru (1), and Subis.

Districts which recorded zero new cases of Covid-19 were Julau, Selangau, Sebauh, Sarikei, Asajaya, Tatau, Bukit Mabong, Kabong, Simunjan, Mukah, Betong, Pusa, Tanjung Manis, Matu, Daro, Belaga, Telang Usan, Marudi, Saratok, Song, Tebedu, Pakan, Meradong and Lubok Antu. — DayakDaily
