Octogenarian dies in hit-and-run incident along Miri-Bintulu Road

MIRI, March 4: An 84-year-old man died this morning following a hit-and-run episode at KM2 Miri-Bintulu Road, near a petrol station.

The victim has been identified as Diong Ching Hwang. He died at the scene.


State Traffic and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, in a statement, said it was believed the elderly pedestrian was hit by a car at about 7.15am.

“We are looking for the vehicle involved in the crash. Anyone with information is requested to call Miri Traffic police or investigating officer Inspector Mohd Syamsul at 01118824414,” he said.

Apart from requesting witnesses to come forward, Alexson said police would also be checking on nearby surveillance cameras (CCTVs) to identify the driver.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
