KUCHING, March 15: Minister of Works Baru Bian has reminded Malaysians to preserve the racial and religious harmony in the country.

His reminder came after the brutal mass shooting of worshipers at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, earlier today during their Friday prayers.

Being a devout Christian, Baru said he was shocked and saddened upon hearing the news of the horrific shootings.

“This act of hate and terror in a sacred place, where the victims were worshipping, is a heinous crime that all right-minded people condemn strongly.

“This senseless tragedy should be a reminder to us in Malaysia to work at maintaining and preserving our racial and religious harmony among all Malaysians.

“I offer my condolences to the victims and their families and pray that the outpouring of love and support from peace-loving New Zealanders and global citizens will provide a small measure of comfort to them,” he said in a statement today.

A video of the massacre of the shooter’s point-of-view firing his rifle had also been uploaded on the Internet and had gone viral like wildfire.

Police have arrested three men and a woman in connection with the shooting.

According to various news reports, 49 people have been killed and 20 seriously injured. — DayakDaily
