Nur Azhar Bujang sworn in as DUN Secretary

KUCHING, March 28: Nur Azhar Bujang was sworn in today as the Secretary of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) in the presence of DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohammad Asfia Awang Nassar.

A press release from DUN stated the ceremony took place at 10am on the seventh floor of the DUN building.

“The oath-taking ceremony commenced with Nur Azhar Bujang reciting the oath-taking pledge, followed by the signing of the certificate of appointment as the Secretary of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly,” read the press release.

According to the press release, Nur Azhar, 39, is a senior State Attorney who earned a Bachelor of Legal Studies (Hons) in 2009 and a Bachelor of Law (Hons) in 2010 from Universiti Teknologi Mara. He received his early education at Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang in Miri.

He started his career in the private sector at a law firm in Kuala Lumpur before returning to Sarawak to join the State civil service as a legal officer in the Sarawak Attorney-General’s Office.

“This Kuching native then supported the State government’s initiative in the Digital Economy by continuing his studies in a Master of Laws Degree in Intellectual Property and Digital Economy at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

“Upon returning from his Master’s studies, he was one of the lawyers in a high-profile case representing the Sarawak government, including the case between Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Berhad) and the Sarawak government. In addition to litigation, he is also involved in the law-making process, the advisory section and also represents the State government in negotiations between the State government and the Federal government.”

Nur Azhar was awarded the Service Medal (Silver) from Sarawak Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

For the record, Nur Azhar succeeded Pele Peter Tinggom, who was sworn in as Senator at Dewan Negara on March 5.

Also present at the ceremony were DUN Deputy Speaker Dato Idris Buang, Sarawak Attorney-General (AG) Datu Saferi Ali, dignitaries, and DUN staff. — DayakDaily
