KUCHING, May 20: Many stubborn motorists continued trying their luck to ‘balik kampung’ by sneaking across state borders yesterday with 3,212 of them instructed to turn back by the police.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the numbers of these motorists attempted to cross 216 police roadblocks nationwide continue to rise to almost double compared to 1,633 on Monday.

“When questioned by police at roadblocks, these people said they wanted to return to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri. They were told to turn back.

“Obviously there are still many who want to return to their hometowns for Hari Raya Aidilfitri. As I have repeatedly mentioned many times, interstate travel is not allowed. Only those on emergency cases such as the death of a close family member will be granted permission,” he said during his daily press conference on Covid-19 non-health related issues in Putrajaya.ā€”DayakDaily
