MIRI, June 9: The Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) will host a blood donation drive this Saturday (June 15) to help save lives besides creating more awareness amongst the public about blood donations.
The programme will be held on at Bintang Mega Mall, 1st Floor New Wing from 9am to 1pm.
NSJA will be collaborating with Miri Hospital Blood Bank and Shun Shen Lee Trading Sdn Bhd for this event.
NSJA president, Andy Jong, when met today said the event is in line with the World Blood Donor day.
“Every year, on June 14, countries around the world are celebrating World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), ever since 2004, and in conjunction with the event, we came up with the blood drive,” he explained.
“We want to encourage people, especially the youths, to donate blood to save those in need.”
He noted that blood supply especially during festive periods and school holidays are likely to decrease, therefore, the blood drive is meant to help patients in need of blood.
Donors at this coming event will receive 5kg-bags of fragrant rice, sponsored by Shun Shen Lee Trading Sdn Bhd.
Other sponsors include Indocafe, Ayam Brand, and Vico.
Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin is expected to launch the event around 12.30pm that day.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) will also set up an exhibition booth and registration counter for ‘Larian Bersama Bomba’ during the blood drive.
‘Larian Bersama Bomba’ is scheduled to be held on August 18 (Sunday) at Marina Parkcity, with flag-off scheduled for 6.15am.
Early bird registration for the run is RM55 per pax.
All proceeds of ‘Larian Bersama Bomba’ will be channelled to Persatuan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam (Perkaya) Miri, Persatuan Perkhidmatan Keupayaan Miri and Diabetes Malaysia Miri branch. — DayakDaily
