NREB launches probe into Balai Ringin logjam

BALAI RINGIN, Feb 4: The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak has launched an investigation to identify the source of the massive logjam at Sungai Krangan, Balai Ringin.

In a statement today, the Board acknowledged public concerns over the recurring issue of floating wood debris and assured that immediate action is being taken to ensure accountability and establish preventive measures.

“NREB is also in close coordination with relevant agencies on the removal of the debris to restore the affected area and minimize disruptions to local communities.

“Enforcement officers have already been deployed to assess the situation and determine necessary actions, while cleanup efforts are being efficiently coordinated with both public agencies and private sector partners to ensure a swift resolution,” it said.

The Board further urged plantation operators to comply strictly with environmental regulations to prevent further harm to waterways.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting local livelihoods, ensuring water security, and holding offenders accountable for environmental damage.
