Notorious Pasai Cluster yields more new cases, 20 cases reported today, says SDMC

KUCHING, Feb 20: The notorious Pasai Cluster continued to churn out new cases and topped the number of cases for Covid-19 active clusters in Sarawak.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a press statement today said the Pasai Cluster reported 20 new cases of coronavirus.

They were 10 cases that involved the Pasai Cluster in Sibu, eight cases in Song and two cases in Kapit.

With the additional 20 cases reported, the cumulative number of positive Covid-19 cases for the cluster has increased to 2,635 cases.

A total of 36,000 individuals linked to the cluster has been swabbed with 33,165 individuals tested negative and 200 individuals are still awaiting their test results for their Covid-19 swab test.

In the meantime, there are 24 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

They are the Jalan Green Cluster (Kuching), Kejatau Cluster (Sri Aman), Jan Yong Cluster (Kapit), Geronggong Cluster (Sibu), Mas Merah (Sibu), Univista Cluster (Samarahan), Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster (Kuching), Gelong Cluster (Kapit), Kidurong Dua Cluster (Bintulu), Nanga Lijan Cluster (Julau), Seruas Cluster (Beluru), Sebangkoi Cluster (Sri Aman), Jun Heng Cluster (Bintulu), Bintang Daily Cluster (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran Cluster (Matu), Tabong Cluster (Bau), Indah Riang Cluster (Kuching), Bedayan Cluster (Serian), Rakut Cluster (Miri), Bukit Sekubong Cluster (Sebauh), Jelita Cluster (Miri), Pasai Cluster (Sibu), Bah Sayap Cluster (Miri) and Stutong Cluster (Kuching).

Seven out of the 24 active clusters reported new cases.

They are the Pasai Cluster which reported 20 new cases, Jalan Green Cluster (6), Rakut Cluster (6), Univista Cluster (5), Gelong Cluster (3), Kejatau Cluster (2) and the Nanga Lijan Cluster (1).

For the Jalan Green Cluster which was identified following a street fight between two individuals near Chonglin Plaza, there were still 86 individuals who were awaiting the laboratory test results for their Covid-19 swab test.

A total of 148 individuals have been screened whereby 50 individuals were tested negative.

Yesterday, SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas revealed that there were 130 police officers who were undergoing quarantine for close contact after a few policemen have arrested two individuals that were involved in a street fight on Valentine’s Day and subsequently tested positive for Covid-19.

The close contacts involved 109 policemen from the Gita, Tabuan Jaya and Sekama police stations respectively. — DayakDaily
