KUCHING, April 25: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen has written a letter of appeal to the State Health Department in response to police summonses issued to two citizens for failing to scan the MySejahtera code because they do not own a smartphone.
According to Chong in a Facebook Live session today, he received a complaint in which the police went to a premises in Kuching last Friday (April 22) and issued summonses to two individuals identified as Mr Chong and Mr Chai, who work there, for failing to scan the MySejahtera code.
āThe issue is that neither of them owns a smartphone, but they record their check-in and temperature details in the logbook every day.
āThey felt it was unfair because the police told them to stay at home and not work because they donāt have MySejahtera.
āSo the police can support them instead if they don’t work? Or the government?ā he said.
Chong went on to say that the police issued summonses to the two citizens, and that when they came to him for assistance, he assisted them in writing a letter of appeal to be sent to the State Health Department in order to have their summonses revoked.
āNot owning a smartphone is not a crime.
āFurthermore, they have recorded their check-in and temperature details in the logbook on a daily basis.
āI hope the police can be considerate and understand that not all citizens have smartphones and that MySejahtera cannot be downloaded if one does not have a smartphone, but as long as check-in and temperature details are recorded in a logbook on a daily basis, it is fine,ā Chong said. ā DayakDaily
