KUCHING, April 3: The proposed Work From Home (WFH) policy cannot be applied to all jobs without considering the nature of the work, says Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.
In a report by TVS, she said the matter was discussed in Cabinet to ensure the policy is practical and flexible, particularly for civil servants.
“I commented in Cabinet that this should be reviewed in terms of need and suitability. Not all jobs are suitable for working from home,” she told reporters during an official working visit to the Lundu District Headquarters and the handover of equipment for the Rangkaian Kasih Program today.
According to Nancy, department heads are best placed to decide who can work from home, as they understand their organisation’s tasks and operations.
She also acknowledged the challenges faced by parents managing daily routines, including sending children to school, whether working from home or at the office.
She added that full WFH is not feasible for certain sectors, including education and critical services.
“Some services are indeed unsuitable for working from home, so we need to look at this realistically,” she added.
Nancy stressed that the policy is still being monitored and refined to benefit everyone.
“This implementation is still new, and we will continue to monitor it to ensure it truly balances work requirements and public well-being,” she stressed. — DayakDaily
