KUCHING, Aug 13: All non-contact sports activities involving individuals or team for the purpose of training, matches and tournament are allowed throughout Sarawak under both Phase 2 and 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

According to the newly released standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, this includes organisation of local and international tournaments or competitions for the non-contact sports events.

These events are only permissible subject to the approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sarawak (KBSS) but they are to be held “under quarantine” and without any attendance of the audience.

SDMC must also be informed of these events which are not allowed in areas undergoing enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

For international participants who wish to take part in the local events in Sarawak, their entries are subject to the Malaysian Immigration Department where they will be required to produce a letter of support from KBSS and again, SDMC must be notified.

According to SDMC, public recreational activities involving non-contact sports are also allowed but with strict compliance of the sports and recreation SOPs set by KBSS.

Meanwhile, public parks are allowed to operate in compliance with the Sports and Recreation SOPs issued by KBSS. – Dayakdaily.
