‘No one left behind’: MBKS mayor lauds Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display as symbol of unity

KUCHING, Aug 9: A total of 1,500 participants from 13 martial arts associations lit up the Kuching Festival Martial Arts Display 2025 on Friday night (Aug 8) with dynamic performances celebrating unity and cultural pride.

Officiating the event, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the showcase reflected the city’s inclusive spirit, where residents from all backgrounds come together to share their talents.

“We want everybody to be involved either in martial arts, dance, sports, whatever you name it, we will create it. So as a leader, I’m very proud because you have shown to the world that martial arts can be also a sign of our Sarawak spirit.

“In any case our belief is simple but a powerful principle—that no one in Sarawak is left behind. Age is just a number, strength and spirit are what truly matter,” he said.

Wee urged the community to value and protect its harmony, pledging continued support for programmes that bring together children, youth, and seniors to build a stronger, healthier, and more connected Kuching.

The martial arts display featured performances from a diverse range of groups, including the Sarawak Taiji Qigong Shibashi Association, Fa Jia Gong Pertubuhan Meditasi Fo Fa Ling Xian Zong Kuching, Persekutuan Silat Olahraga Nasional Negeri Sarawak, Persatuan Silambam Negeri Sarawak, and the Sarawak Iban Kuntau Association.

Also participating were Pergurusan Silat Gerak Kuntau Betawi Darul Hana – Kunto Spring Nek Bojeng, Kelab Taiji Kungfu Fan, Pergurusan Seni Silat Siantong Melayu Asli, Persatuan Persilatan Seni Asli Zamrud Kuching, Persatuan Judo Sarawak, Kuching Taekwondo and Self Defence Academy, Wushu Federation of Sarawak, Cawangan Tempur Tanpa Senjata, and the Rejimen Pertama Kor Polis Tentera Diraja Kem Muara Tuang Kota Samarahan Rumpun. — DayakDaily
