KUCHING, Aug 17: The Mayor’s Walk 2025, organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS), saw an overwhelming turnout of more than 8,000 participants this morning, reflecting the strong community spirit of Kuching.
The annual walk, which has been held since 2017, was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who joined families, friends and residents in the fun-filled morning activity.
Welcoming participants, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that the Mayor’s Walk is not only about fitness but also about community-building.
“Just look around you. So many happy faces, families, and friends walking together. This is what the Mayor’s Walk is all about—not just fitness, but community-building,” he said in his speech.
He added that the walk symbolises Kuching’s spirit of unity, where everyone, regardless of age, background or size, belongs.
“When we walk side by side, we are showing what Kuching really is—one big family. Young or old, big or small, everyone belongs here. That is the MBKS spirit: No One is Left Behind,” he stressed.
Wee further encouraged participants to treasure the friendships, smiles and memories created through the walk, noting that every step taken together is a step towards a healthier, happier and more united Kuching. – DayakDaily
