KUCHING, July 26: A coalition of over 50 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under Bela Pertiwi Secretariat was left disappointed today after their attempt to deliver a protest memorandum to Perikatan Nasional (PN) representatives in Kuching fell through—because no one showed up to receive it.
The group arrived as scheduled to hand over the document, only to find the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) office closed. Based on information they received, PN does not appear to have an official office in Sarawak.
Program director for the memorandum submission in Sarawak, Abun Sui Anyit, said the coalition had notified PN representatives in advance, but their absence sends a troubling signal.
“The absence of PN representatives is deeply regrettable and reflects the opposition’s failure to engage constructively and to listen to the voice of the people in a mature and transparent manner,” he said in a press statement today.
Despite the failed handover, the group proceeded with a symbolic presentation of the memorandum, which will later be delivered via official email to BERSATU Sarawak.
The memorandum outlined three key points:
1. 1. To respond to and correct baseless allegations made by the opposition against the Madani government, which are seen as attempts to mislead the public and create political instability.
2. To express the people’s firm rejection of politics based on slander, incitement and divisive culture, which are increasingly being promoted by certain vested interests.
3. To affirm support for the Madani government’s commitment to pursuing national and state development agendas that are inclusive, progressive and founded on the principles of social justice—for the well-being of all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or background.
Bela Pertiwi Secretariat further slammed the opposition’s silence, comparing their lack of response to being “neither dead nor alive”—apathetic and unresponsive to the people’s concerns. – DayakDaily
