KUCHING, Aug 30: All Sarawakians, especially motorsports clubs or groups, are reminded not to organise any convoy activities in conjunction with National Day.

In making the call, State Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail said the reminder had to be issued because Sarawak is facing the Covid-19 pandemic which is still spreading, especially in Kuching district.

“To ensure that the public complies with standard operating procedures (SOP) as set by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in addition to road laws and regulations, the police especially the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department is currently implementing the Op Khas Ambang Merdeka 2021 from Aug 28 to Sept 1.

“This operation is carried out with full enforcement and involves all districts in Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

He also mentioned that the operation’s main focus was road users who commit offenses which can contribute to the occurrence of road accidents such as speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal racing and all motorcycle-related offenses.

“The police will also conduct integrated operations with other enforcement agencies in enforcing rules and compliance with SOP of Op Covid-19,” he added.

Apart from convoys, Aidi also reminded the public that no marches and celebrations can be held during National Day, which falls on Aug 31. — DayakDaily
