KUCHING, Sept 24: Senator Abun Sui Anyit has called for a ‘win-win solution’ that benefits Sarawakians as consumers in the ongoing gas distribution discussions between the Sarawak government, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).
Abun’s statement comes after the Office of the Premier of Sarawak issued a joint statement confirming that talks between the parties are ongoing, with Petronas taking no legal action against Sarawak or Petros.
“I welcome this joint statement. Whatever the final decision, after the ongoing discussions, I hope that it may be a win-win solution and must benefit Sarawakians as consumers of that decision,” he said.
Abun emphasised the need for a fair and competitive environment, cautioning against any monopolistic control by either Petronas or Petros.
“I propose that no monopoly be allowed by either party, as monopolies can cause losses for the people of Sarawak due to the absence of healthy competition,” he stated.
The joint statement revealed that the Sarawak government, Petronas, and Petros confirms that discussions regarding gas distribution in the State are ongoing and are expected to conclude soon.
Additionally, it affirmed that all parties are adhering to Federal and State laws throughout the process. — DayakDaily
