KUCHING, April 18: A politician can be replaced overnight, but no government can change the system overnight, says Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

In stating this, he said certain politicians who promised to change the system overnight are people who have never worked in the government.

“(In an) overnight, you can change a politician, but you cannot change the system. That’s something that they (politicians) have to realise.

“Politicians who promised that they can change the system overnight basically did not tell you the truth, and at worst, they are ignorant and not fit to be in power because they don’t know what they are talking about,” he told reporters during a dinner with the media held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) earlier tonight.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, further said that the Sarawak government is working hard to claim the State’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), especially on health and education.

However, he stressed that nobody would give a person money and power unless that person is strong.

“That is why we need Sarawakians to continue to be with us, working together with us, and remain united so that by 2030, we can get back all the eroded rights of the State.

“(Sarawak) needs a bit of time to achieve all these (rights) because even if you take back education (rights), you still need the expertise and (the time) for the system to adjust. It cannot happen overnight,” he added. — DayakDaily
