KUCHING, April 18: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) is working closely with Miri City Council (MCC) on rates collection and smart city programmes.

MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said there is much to learn from MCC, especially on how the council was able to collect up to 90 per cent of rates from residents within its jurisdiction.

“I have met up with MCC mayor Adam Yii and his staff to discuss the matter.

“Wherever possible, MPKS will emulate MCC’s impressive and practical collection tactics and ways,” he said in a statement today.

Minos also mentioned that MCC had successfully implemented its smart city programmes using advanced technology and IT in making the city safe, clean, and green.

“MCC had done a remarkable and salutary job on this matter. Thus, MPKS will also want to emulate MCC’s success.

“Besides, like a liveable city idea under United Nations’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), smart city programmes aim to make a city modern and liveable. This is the ‘in’ thing now globally,” he added.

Minos further said that MPKS officers would liaise with the MCC staff. — DayakDaily
