KUCHING, Jan 23: The investigation into the double-death case in Sri Aman has largely been completed, with police finding no evidence of third-party involvement.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said investigators have recorded about 30 statements from witnesses, including family members, friends, colleagues, teachers and neighbours of the victims.
“We have also obtained the chemistry report and the post-mortem reports from the doctors who conducted the autopsy on both victims,” he told reporters this morning. An audio recording of the doorstep interview was later shared to DayakDaily.
Based on the findings, Zainal said the weapon used in the incident only contained DNA belonging to the two victims, with no foreign DNA detected.
He added that police found no signs of forced entry at the house and no indication that any household items were missing.
“From the investigation, the inference we can make is that this incident involved only the two victims, namely the husband and wife,” he pointed out.
According to him, police are currently awaiting the forensic analysis of both victims’ mobile phones, which may provide further insight into the motive behind the deaths.
“At this stage, we believe there are no further investigations to be conducted except to wait for the forensic report on the mobile phones,” he said.
Additionally, he said the case has not been classified as no further action (NFA) pending the completion of this analysis.
Zainal said statements from witnesses indicated that the husband, who was recently transferred and appointed as headmaster at SK Lubuk, was believed to have been experiencing depression in recent months.
“However, once we receive the forensic report on the mobile phones, we may be able to determine whether there are other factors that could help establish the actual motive behind the deaths,” he added. — DayakDaily
