MIRI, Aug 26: Members of the public can still be seen queuing up outside the Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) Miri branch at Jalan Sri Dagang in the hopes that they will be able to cash out their Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) vouchers in time.

The long queue that began to form outside the BSN Miri branch with some in line since 2am this morning have led to concerns over the possibility of Covid-19 infections if physical distancing is not practiced.

Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni was seen speaking to some waiting in line to address the situation.

“The bank needs a human-centric approach to solve the problem and to see how we can best help the people,” he said.

“These people have risked their lives, spending hours outside the bank in the hopes of getting their cash assistance aid before closing time because they need to buy essential items during this difficult time following the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

One of them had tried his luck by lining up outside the bank for the past three days, as the bank limited the number of patrons entering the premise to only 80 customers per day.

“There were some who came as far as Ulu Tinjar Baram, and Saeh, Niah, and had spent more than RM100 for transportation just to get here (BSN Miri branch) to cash out their vouchers,” he said.

For the record, there are no ATMs or mobile bank services in Beluru and Bekenu. — DayakDaily
