No ‘balik kampung’ allowed for Hari Gawai Dayak

KUCHING, May 20: Interzone travel to return to hometowns during the upcoming Hari Gawai Dayak festival is not permitted.


According to the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) approved by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) released by the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) updated today (May 21), interzone travelling for ‘balik kampung’ is not allowed.

Unifor said social activities such as weddings, engagements, thanksgiving dinners (‘makai selamat’), cockfighting, ritual events and other social activities are not permitted.

The unit added the village development and security committees (JKKKs) are required to monitor and ensure that villagers in the said village or longhouse complies with SOPs.

Hari Gawai Dayak falls on June 1 and 2.
