No arrests yet over Miri teacher allegedly insulting Islam on Facebook

KUCHING, Dec 18: The police are still investigating the case involving a primary school teacher in Miri who allegedly insulted Islam on his Facebook account.

State Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Pahlawan Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said no arrest had been made and a total of three police reports had been lodged against the Facebook account holder.

“We are still investigating the case and we will then submit the report to the Public Prosecutor to decide whether to lay charges or not,” he told reporters after launching Ops Selamat Christmas at Batu Kawah Emart here today.


It was reported that the teacher had made comments on Islam and the United States’ recognition of Jerusalem, a holy city for Muslims, Christians and Jews, as the capital of Israel.

The post which went viral had angered netizens.

The Facebook account holder had subsequently apologised for the comments and expressed remorse for angering Muslims in the country, including his friends and relatives.

He added that he had also surrendered himself to the police. — DayakDaily
