BETONG, May 13: A major landslide at Jalan Raya Utama here has cut off road access to nine longhouses at Ulu Padeh in Spak and Skrang at about 6am today.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Betong dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene, located about 27km away after receiving the alert at 8.42am.
The landslide measuring 10 metres wide and 30 metres deep has brought traffic in the area to a standstill.
“An alternative route from Sengkabang to Betong through a gravel road has been identified for motorists to avoid the landslide-hit area. However only four-wheel-drive vehicles can go through such a gravel road,” Bomba Betong PBK I Henry Jugah revealed in a statement.
He added that Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak will repair the road beginning today until Sunday (May 17).
