Nine furniture shop owners, workers fined RM1,000 each for defying MCO

SIBU, Feb 1: Nine persons including four women from seven furniture shops have been fined RM1,000 each for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO) here.

The nine aged between 31 to 62 are owners and workers of the furniture shops.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said at about 11am on Jan 31, a police MPV team led by ASP Kushairy Bujang tasked with MCO enforcement conducted spot checks on the seven furniture shops in town.


The seven shops were found in operation when they should be closed as furniture shops are not considered an essential service.

“They were fined RM1,000 each for the offence under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the Area of Infection Area) (No.2) Regulations 2021,” Stanley said. — DayakDaily
