BINTULU, Aug 6: Nine containers carrying frozen chicken worth RM4.13 million have been seized by the Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at Bintulu Port after the shipment was found to have failed to comply with mandatory goods declaration requirements.
The seizure was carried out during a joint monitoring and enforcement operation involving AKPS Bintulu Port officers, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) last Tuesday.
In a statement issued today, AKPS Bintulu Port said initial inspections found that the nine containers were suspected of entering the country without proper declaration of the imported goods as required under regulations.
A subsequent physical inspection confirmed that the containers were carrying frozen chicken, a controlled item that requires an import permit before it can be brought into Malaysia.
“AKPS subsequently seized all the containers at the Bintulu Port area to facilitate further investigations by JKDM.
“The total value of the seized goods is estimated at RM4,132,440, making it one of the agency’s significant seizures involving commercial goods at the port,” the statement said as reported by TVS.
The case has been handed over to JKDM for further action and is being investigated under Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for suspected false or incomplete declarations involving imported goods.
AKPS said the enforcement action reflects its commitment to ensuring that all goods entering the country meet established regulatory and compliance requirements.
The agency added that monitoring and enforcement efforts at all national entry points will continue to be strengthened to prevent violations, particularly those involving goods that could pose risks to public safety and national security.
AKPS, JKDM and DVS will continue their strategic cooperation to ensure Malaysia’s import supply chain remains secure and compliant with all relevant regulations. — DayakDaily
