‘Next Week’ will determine if Covid-19 outbreak in Sibu has been beaten or if it will spike again

Dr Annuar Rapaee

SIBU, March 19: Next week which is Week 12 of the Covid-19 outbreak here is crucial to determine whether the disease will be brought under control or there will be another spike.

The outbreak started from Pasai Cluster on Jan 8 with 38 cases.

Sibu Disaster Management Committee coordinator, Dr Annuar Rapaee in his daily Covid-19 update via Facebook Live today said there had been one cycle in the spike in cases on Week 6th with 609 cases.

Cases subsequently went down before peaking on Week 10th with 725 cases.

“I want to make a very clear message that cases will rise on the 4th week. However if it goes down next week, maybe we can flatten the curve,” he said.

Likewise, another cycle of the outbreak, he warned might occur like what happened in Sibu Jaya if the people are complacent and not abide by the SOP.

“Our prediction is always on the 4th Week because the 14th to 28th day, it will rise if we are not serious. So next week is very important for us to flatten the curve. That is why we are doing ACD (active case detection) in Kpg Hilir Cluster and Awang Cluster,” he emphasised.

On the 65 cases reported in Sibu today, he said 40 of them were from two quarantine centres, 29 in Sibu Municipal Council area, 28 in Sibu Jaya (24 in flats and 4 in terrace house) and eight in Sibu Rural District Council area.

Explaining on the 40 cases in the quarantine centres, the Nangka assemblyman said the cases came from four Sibu Jaya flats with 24 cases, Kg Hilir (2), Lorong Setia Timur 10 (4) Lorong Sibu Jaya 5E (4)

Lorong Selasih (3) and one each from Kemuyang, and Permai, Lorong Pine 4A.

Up till today, he said the number of patients discharged from the hospital was 94.8% while 12 more are under ventilator. The positivity rate stood at 4%.- DayakDaily
