Newlywed in Kuching jailed 12 months for dishonestly retaining stolen goods

KUCHING, May 27: A man who has been married for just three days has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for dishonestly retaining stolen goods.

Mohamad Yusmadi Osman, 37, pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charge, he was accused of storing stolen goods, including nine branded watches, a car key remote, a perfume bottle, and a camera.

He was found with the items in a room at a house in Taman Peony, Jalan Matang, around 6.30pm on January 5, 2023.

If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

Based on the case facts, on December 25, 2022, at around 11.15am, the 31-year-old female complainant realised her house had been broken into through the living room window, damaging the window grille.

Upon inspection, she discovered several luxury goods had been stolen.

A police report was lodged by the complainant, leading to further investigation and the subsequent arrest of the accused.

Investigations revealed that the accused was apprehended with the stolen items, as reported by the complainant.

The accused personally showed the police where he had stored the stolen goods in his bedroom.

Additionally, the complainant was able to identify all the stolen luxury items.

The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused was unrepresented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
