KUCHING, Jan 23: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap hopes that the newly installed decorative street lighting will improve the overall welcoming environment of the Kota Sentosa commercial area, attracting more locals and tourists.

According to a press release, Yap along with officers from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and the contractor CPWT Supplies and Services, conducted a joint final inspection of the installation along the main road of Kota Sentosa commercial area.

The contract sum for the project is RM200,000, funded by Yap’s Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation for N12 Kota Sentosa.

“The scope of work includes dismantling existing street lighting poles and installing new double arm decorative poles with 150-watt LED street lanterns, 120-watt street lights, and LED motive lights.

“LED lighting, which is low in energy consumption, was requested by YB Wilfred Yap to be used for the project to contribute positively towards reducing the carbon footprint.

“This project, though small, is in line with the Sarawak government’s policy of reducing carbon emissions by 45 per cent, equipping Sarawak with sustainable infrastructure and promoting a more sustainable future by strengthening our resilience towards climate change by 2030,” read the press release.

Furthermore, Yap expressed hope that politicians in the federal unity government, despite being in the opposition in Sarawak, will prioritise ‘people over politics’ and focus on ‘lives’, ‘livelihood’, and the needs of the people rather than engaging in excessive politicking for publicity. — DayakDaily
