New workplace cluster identified in Miri, involves F&B workers

KUCHING, Sept 19: A new workplace cluster in Miri today involving a food premises’ workers with 24 Covid-19 cases reported so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) which announced this in a statement today revealed the cluster centred on an eatery located at King’s Commercial Park.

From the total of 151 individuals who were screened, 24 of them were confirmed positive for Covid-19, including the index case, and the test results for 30 other individuals were negative.


The remaining 97 individuals are still awaiting laboratory test results. The cluster reported two new cases today.

According to the committee, all of the positive cases from the cluster were referred to Miri Hospital and the Covid-19 Assessment Center (CAC) in the district.

Meanwhile, SDMC said a total of 136 clusters are still active throughout the state as of today, with 16 of them reporting a total of 67 new cases.

By active cluster, the Sungai Pana Cluster had the biggest gain with 15 new cases, followed by the Bungey 2 Cluster with 13 cases.

Other clusters that reported new cases are the Long Urun Cluster (8), Industri Jalan Semeba Cluster (6), Pinang Jawa Cluster (6), Duras Cluster (4), Opar Cluster (3), Kampung Segedup Cluster (3), Jalan Taman Raja Cluster (2), while Kampung Bunga Cluster, Kampung Sibuluh-Nowang Cluster, Annah Rais Cluster, Nansang Wak Cluster, Sungai Ipoh Cluster, Sungai Buloh Cluster and KM19 Jalan Kuching-Serian Cluster reported one case each respectively.

The committee also disclosed the end of three clusters today, namely the Peligong Cluster of Saratok, and Tanjung Tuang Cluster and Bandar Riyal Cluster, both of Samarahan, after zero cases were reported in the previous 28 days. — DayakDaily
