New virus cases for ‘cockfighting’ Jalan Muhibbah Cluster up again by double digits

KUCHING, March 11: The ‘cockfighting’ Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong saw another day of double-digit jump in daily infections as 19 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours. 

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s daily Covid-19 situation update for Sarawak informed that this thus increased the cluster’s total to 287. 

As of today, a total of 2,700 individuals have been screened whereby 2,300 were negative while 133 were still awaiting for lab test results.


Apart from that, another six of 26 active clusters in Sarawak also contributed to today’s Covid-19 caseload. 

They comprised of two funeral clusters of Emperoh Jambu in Kuching and Gelong in Kapit, as well as four social activity-related clusters of Kiba in Sibu, Bukit Tunggal in Julau and Jalan Green in Kuching and one workplace cluster of Sungai Bakong in Meradong. 

Emperoh Jambu picked up two more cases while Gelong registered four cases to push the respective cluster’s total to 264 and 240.

A total of 1,400 individuals related to Emperoh Jambu have been screened whereby 900 were negative while 236 were still awaiting for lab results. 

As for Gelong, a total of 287 individuals have been screened whereby 47 were negative while no lab results were pending. 

Workplace cluster of Sungai Bakong in Meradong swelled to 193 after reporting nine cases overnight. A total of 1,348 individuals have been screened whereby 1,150 were negative while five were still awaiting for lab results. 

Kiba Cluster in Sibu, which originated from a longhouse in Ulu Durin Kiba after a 53-year-old woman tested positive from symptomatic screening, picked up another three new cases today, bringing the cluster’s total to 36.
 
A total of 95 individuals have been screened whereby 59 were negative and no results were pending. 

As for Bukit Tunggal Cluster in Julau, which emerged due to a gotong-royong paddy harvesting activity, added four cases today to push the cluster’s total to 40. A total of 147 individuals have been screened whereby 107 were negative and no results were pending. 

Jalan Green Cluster in Kuching also registered four new cases, to increase the cluster’s total to 31. A total of 303 individuals have been screened whereby 272 were negative and no results were pending. 
The remaining 19 clusters did not report any new cases today. 

They are Melor in Pusa; Jalan Awang, Geronggang, Mas Merah and Pasai in Sibu; Buloh in Selangau; Jalan Ho Pin and Univista in Samarahan; Kampung Sungai Maong in Kuching; Kejatau and Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Jan Yong in Kapit; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Nanga Lijan in Julau; Seruas in Beluru; Bintang Daily in Meradong; Tabong in Bau; Rakut in Miri as well as sub-cluster Tangap in Subis. 

Meanwhile, Jalan Pengiran Cluster in Matu within Mukah Division, which was declared on Jan 31, has officially ended today after no new case was recorded in the past 30 days. The last case was detected on Feb 10. 

A total of 326 individuals were screened whereby 24 were positive while 302 were negative. 

Sarawak recorded 168 new cases today with Sibu topping the list of daily infections at 49 cases followed by Bintulu (37), Miri and Betong (19 each), Kuching (12), Kapit and Meradong (10 each), Bau and Julau (4 each), Mukah (3) and Limbang (1).

This thus increased the state tally of positive cases to 11,878. — DayakDaily
