New TV series to showcase traditional Sarawak food on Astro

KUCHING, June 5: Explore Sarawak’s food and culinary culture and its unique ingredients from different regions with host Winson Wen Sheng Guang in a new TV series produced by Sabahan production company Paper Pen Events, called “Borneo Culinary Adventures-Sarawak”.

According to Wen, the TV series will air on Astro AEC (CH 306) and Astro GO every Sunday at 10pm beginning August 7.


“There will be a total of 11 episodes, and each will focus on a specific ingredient or traditional dish.

“The food and culinary traditions of the Iban, Dayak, Bidayuh, and Chinese are featured in the TV series.

“Sarawak laksa, midin, kolo mee, terung Dayak, dabai, and other dishes will be featured in the TV series,” he said today during the “Borneo Culinary Adventures-Sarawak” press conference and “Craze Below The Wind” movie screening held at the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Cityone Megamall here.

The TV series director, Chua Soon Min who is also known as Katak Chua, stated that the production team hopes to educate viewers on Sarawak’s cuisine, culinary history, culture, and background, as well as the stories of the people of Sarawak through the TV series.

“I believe the TV series has the potential to promote tourism in Sarawak when it airs,” he said.

Its producer, Chris Chin, revealed the production team travelled to various regions throughout the State to gain an in-depth understanding of the food unique to each region.

He went on to say that the team’s goal was to discover the true origins of each food.
