New Transport minister vows his best

KUCHING, Aug 22: Newly appointed Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shim revealed that he was shocked to hear of his appointment but vowed to use his previous experiences to lead the new ministry.

“I was told only just now and I came over here,” he told reporters before meeting Chief Minister at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

“But I have been an Assistant Minister of Infrastructure Development and Communications as well as Transportation for the last 13 years. So I will use my experience in the past to lead the new ministry,” he pledged.

With the new appointment, Lee assured to do his best in carrying out his duties.

“I would like to thank the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for his trust and confidence in me and my party (SUPP) president (Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian) (for recommending me). And of course, (my job will be) to support our Chief Minister’s vision to develop the transportation sector in Sarawak,” he added.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, is currently the vice president of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party.

Lee’s portfolio as the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture has been taken over by new face and fellow SUPP leader, Datuk Sebastian Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman.

Both men will take their oaths of office before the Head of State Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud soon.— DayakDaily
