SIBU, Feb 16: A new tender for the construction of a ferry ramp in Sedaya, Kanowit will be issued by November 2023 at the latest.

Ngemah assemblyman Anyi Jana said today at a briefing for the project with Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu Division, he was made to understand that the project was completed on June 23, 2021.

“However, the ferry operation cannot be carried out because it will face problems when the water is shallow.

“Therefore, JKR Sibu Division has applied for an additional budget to continue the construction of the ferry ramp on both sides of the river,” he explained.

He said JKR Sibu Division had disclosed that the original cost of the project was RM 3 million.

“The amendment of the project has resulted in an increase in cost to RM7 million in total.

“JKR Sibu Division has received additional budget approval amounting to RM4.5 million on January 31, 2023,” he said.

Currently, according to Anyi, JKR Sibu Division is in the process of appointing a consultant and preparing a new plan for the project.

With ferry services, it will be easier for local residents including Nanga Tada, Mapai, Bejait, Sedaya and Bawan to go to Kanowit town without having to travel far.

The Sedaya Ferry Terminal is just across Kanowit yown.

If there is no ferry facility, local residents have to take a long route by crossing the Durin Bridge in Sibu to get to Kanowit town. ā€” DayakDaily
