KUCHING, March 15: A new Covid-19 workplace cluster has been identified at a supermarket in Bintulu at Jalan Tanjung, Kidurong.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), 19 cases including the index case have been traced to the Jalan Tanjung Cluster.

“The index case to the cluster is a 27-year-old female who is a worker in a supermarket.

“She was identified through symptomatic screening at the Bintulu Health Clinic on March 13.

“The index case is believed to be infected from the community in Bintulu town as the case did not have close contact to any positive Covid-19 cases which were identified before this,” it said.

Following investigations and active case detection among the workers of the supermarket, SDMC said 18 more cases were identified.

SDMC added active case detection will be expanded to identify all close contacts including family members and social contacts of the cases involved.

At present, a total of 127 individuals related to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19 whereby 19 have tested positive, 106 tested negative and two cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

Meanwhile, there are 29 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, with five of them reporting an increase in new cases today.
