KOTA SAMARAHAN, April 13: Christians of the Anglican faith here will have a new and spacious church to worship in by end of May.
The RM5 million St Francis’s Anglican Church here will be ready by then, and its priest-in-charge Rev Canon Dennis Gimand said the double storey church would be consecrated by end of September.
He said it could accommodate more than 1,000 worshippers at any one time and had a lift for the benefit of the elderly.
Dennis said this after a visit by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas earlier today to check on its construction progress.
Dennis said the church, which is now 90 per cent completed, would have been ready much earlier if not for some changes.
“On behalf of the church and the Anglican faithful here, I wish to express our deepest appreciation to the Sarawak government for donating RM1 million to its construction cost through Unifor (Unit For Other Religions).
“We would also like to thank Uggah, who is Unifor chairman, for his part in helping us to secure the donation as well,” he said.
Uggah was accompanied by Unifor director Datu Dr Ngenang Janggu and a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr Richard Rapu. They spent about one hour at the site. — DayakDaily
