KUCHING, Aug 30: A new link road joining Stapok Utama traffic light junction near SJK Chung Hua No. 6 and Ensing road near Dewan Badminton Stapok will be built to ease traffic congestion.
According to a statement by Batu Kawa Service Centre today, Sarawak Deputy Premier and Batu Kawah assemblyman Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian revealed that the State-funded project would involve a sum of RM2.5 million.
During the visit to the construction site recently, Dr Sim also informed that the funding for the new road is already in place, and the project is pending approval by Sarawak Planning Authority (SPA) on the engineering plan submitted by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, further said that the relevant development plan (the link road) came following feedback from residents to Dr Sim on the rapid growth of the surrounding residential areas.
“With the increase of vehicle volume there, the residents often face longer waiting time to exit from residential area to the main road.
“Hence, Dr Sim has quickly instructed relevant units to draft the development plan, and he also applied to the State government for the funding,” the statement continued.
It added that opening up new roads for newly developed residential areas to connect to the main roads has proven effective in dispersing vehicle congestion and facilitating residents.
A good example was the construction of a similar link road under Dr Sim’s RTP project worth RM430,000 connecting Stephen Yong Road and Wee Boon Ping Road traffic light junction to Taman Kwong Tiong and Lotak Villas where the project created direct access to the main road for the residents there. — DayakDaily
