KUCHING, July 20: A new RM15 million mosque under construction in Betong is set to become an iconic symbol of racial harmony and unity among Sarawak’s diverse communities once completed by December next year.

According to Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordination for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the mosque, which can accommodate up to 1,200 congregants, began construction in June and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

“When completed, this mosque will not only serve as a place of worship but also as a symbol of unity for the multiracial community in Betong and throughout Sarawak,” he said during the launching ceremony of the mosque construction project today, as reported by TVS.

Dr Abdul Rahman also expressed appreciation to all Betong elected representatives, particularly Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, for his key role in driving the project since 2017.

The mosque is expected to strengthen religious activities while serving as a catalyst for unity and community development in the area. — DayakDaily
