New longhouse Sungai Rayah Cluster appears in Meradong with 13 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, May 14: A cluster of Covid-19 cases has emerged at a longhouse at Sungai Rayah in Bintangor with at least 13 people including the index case confirmed positive so far.

Thus, a new Covid-19 cluster has been declared today dubbed the Sungai Rayah Cluster in Meradong.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on Covid-19 in Sarawak, reported that Sungai Rayah is a community cluster involving a longhouse in Sungai Rayah, Bintangor in the Meradong District.


As of today, a total of 50 individuals have been screened whereby 37 tested negative while no cases are pending laboratory test results.

SDMC also informed that all close contacts linked to the cluster have been identified and ordered to undergo quarantine.

All the 13 positive cases have been referred to the Sarikei Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Sarikei and Meradong to be isolated and treated.

In addition, the Sarawak State Health Department has today officially declared the end of Jalan Sultan Iskandar Cluster.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stood at 83, out of which 11 clusters have recorded an increase in daily infections with a total of 53 new cases.

They are Jalan Limbang Cluster which picked up 11 more cases, Jalan Lilin Cluster (10 cases), Jalan Stadium Negeri Cluster (7 cases), Jalan Agama Cluster (6 cases), Melugu Cluster (5 cases), Sebujok Cluster (4 cases), Sungai Ranan Cluster and Emperan Cluster (3 cases each), Beladin Cluster (2 cases), while Jalan Sawit Cluster and Jalan Selirik Cluster has one case each. — DayakDaily
