KUCHING, Dec 1: A new 1.6km-long link road from Jalan Bau-Lundu to Kampung Stunggang Melayu in Lundu will be built to open up village expansion and boost economic growth that will enhance the income of the people.
According to a press statement from Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR Sarawak), the construction of the new road will improve Lundu district’s socio-economic status and benefit Lundu’s population of approximately 33,000 people.
The department added the project, which was approved using State government funds will ease the movements of Kampung Stunggang Melayu residents to the Pan Borneo Highway as they will not need to travel past Lundu town, thus reducing the time and travel distance.
The number of visitors to Lundu district is also expected to increase with the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway stretch from Telok Melano to Sematan, and from Kuching to Sematan.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new link road was done by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today.
During a press conference, Abang Johari revealed that a total of 220 lots of new housing settlement will be built within Kampung Stunggang Melayu.
He believed the new housing settlement will provide a conducive living to the people while the the state government will equip the housing settlement with water supply and concrete drainage.
Tanjong Datu incumbent Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Deputy State Secretary (Socio-Economic Transformation) Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Urban Planning and Natural Resources Ministry permanent secretary Datu Zaidi Mahdi, Land and Survey Department director Datu Abdullah Julaihi and Kuching Resident Datu Sherrina Hussaini were among those present at the ceremony. — DayakDaily
