KUCHING, June 25: New lighting has been installed on the buoy in Kuala Baram to safeguard maritime transportation safety for the area.

Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin, in a statement today, reiterated his appeal to all shipping and fishing communities to join hands in safeguarding it from vandalism for the benefit of all seafarers.

“A new replacement has been installed in the shortest possible time. The installation was completed yesterday (June 24),” he said.

It was reported on June 18 that the navigation buoy, which belonged to Petronas Carigali-SKO Sarawak Operation, for the purpose of marking underwater pipeline to ensure safety of navigation, was vandalised.

Thus, it also compromised the safety of navigation to ships and fishing boats operating around Kuala Baram.

Lee had assured that the replacement will be installed as soon as possible by the Lembaga Boya dan Api Sarawak (LBAS) with the available spare to be reimbursed by Petronas Carigali-SKO Sarawak Operation.—DayakDaily
