10 NGO associations receive MRP grants

KUCHING, June 25: Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan handed out RM83,000 in minor rural project (MRP) grants to 10 associations and clubs today, calling on them to use them wisely.

He also advised them to be transparent about their spending and ensure that there are proper accounting records being kept on income and expenses.


“Associations and clubs that received the MRP from the government are advised to use their grants wisely and be transparent to the committee and members.

“Let your members know about the grants and spending, be transparent and keep records for verification later when needs arise,” he said this when presenting the grants to several associations, longhouse committees and recreational clubs at his office here yesterday.

The Balai Ringin assemblyman advised the recipient to bank-in the cheques of the grant immediately and not wait until the expiry date.

Snowdan who is Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth Chief asserted that it will take time to replace the expired cheque if the recipients had forgotten to bank in the money.

He added that the state government will continue to assist clubs and associations to finance their activities when the needs arise. —DayakDaily
