KUCHING, Feb 24: Construction work on the new Lawas Hospital and Lawas Clinic is currently going smoothly and is expected to be completed in 2024.
According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang on Monday (Feb 21) went to visit both construction sites and was satisfied with the projects’ progress.
“I think it can be completed on time based on the contractor and the Sarawak Public Works Department’s (JKR) words,” he said.
During the visits, Aaron was also briefed on the progress of the projects by the implementing contractor.
He said the construction of Lawas Hospital is still in the early stages such as piling works.
“Currently the main challenge in completing government projects across the country is the issue of workers and building materials due to the spread of Covid-19 as well as unpredictable weather conditions,” he said.
The original completion date for Lawas Hospital was set for Dec 26, 2023, but then extended to Feb 24, 2024 due to Covid-19.
Lawas MP Dato’ Henry Sum Agong, who is also Minister of Transport II, was also present during the site visit. — DayakDaily
