New Covid-19 cases rebound in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Julau and Meradong

KUCHING, March 21: Five districts namely Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Julau and Meradong registered rebounds in new Covid-19 cases today after yesterday’s reprieve.

According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Sibu reported 68 cases, Bintulu (66), Miri (50), Julau (25) and Meradong (16).

Yesterday, Sibu reported 43 cases, Miri (16), Bintulu (13), Julau (3) and Meradong (3).

SDMC said other districts which reported new cases today include Kuching (19), Serian (10), Betong (5), Kapit (5), Sri Aman (3), Subis (3), Song (2), Samarahan (1), Sarikei (1), Sebauh (1), Tanjung Manis (1).

Overall, Sarawak reported 276 new Covid-19 cases, higher than the 154 cases registered yesterday.

With this, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 14,250.

Meanwhile, three imported cases with two involving individuals from Pakistan and Brunei were reported in Bintulu and Miri respectively.

SDMC also disclosed there was one Covid-19 fatality reported today involving a 66-year-old man in Sibu who had comorbidities.

This raised the Covid-19 death toll in Sarawak to 97.

There were 197 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from various hospitals.

A total of 2,717 Covid-19 patients are still being treated for the coronavirus at health facilities throughout the state.

There were also 276 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases with no Covid-19 swab test results pending. —DayakDaily
