KUCHING, Aug 17: Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the new convention centre in Kuching will be double the size of the existing Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and will be located adjacent to it.
“The plan is to build a second BCCK, located just next door to the existing convention centre.
“The final plan of the design will only come about after it has been approved by the State government.
“But, it’s going to be bigger than the existing one, probably double the size,” Abdul Karim told reporters today at the Kuching Marathon 2022 (KM2022) press conference, which was held in the Mulu Meeting Hall at the Bangunan Baitulmakmur II here.
He said that the current BCCK is insufficient to accommodate larger programmes, based on the number of conferences and conventions that are being organised.
“That is why we want a bigger convention centre in Kuching, as well as one in Miri, as Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg mentioned the other day.
“We want to see the new BCCK completed within the next 24 months, if possible, because there are certain events we want to organise in the coming years,” he noted.
Abang Johari announced yesterday that a new convention centre in Kuching will be completed by 2024 to host a major hydrogen convention in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
