KUCHING, March 2: A new company has been appointed to take over a ‘sick project’ involving the proposed 7km new single carriageway road in Samarahan, and tasked with completing it by November 2025.

The rescue contractor appointed is Alvin Engineering Services Sdn Bhd.

Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the contract sum of the project is RM106.9 million.

“The new completion period date will be on Feb 7, 2026. So far the project seems to be on schedule and I hope that will be maintained.

“I’m hoping for the contractor to not only complete it in 2026 but maybe by the end of 2025. Not ‘there’s a chance’ (sic) but I want to see your commitment to complete it by November 2025,” he said during his site visit at Samarahan here today.

The JKR R5 Standard road project, which includes ground improvement and road junctions, is part of the proposed Second Kuching-Samarahan Trunk Road, Kuching and Samarahan Division.
