New cluster declared after 29 people link to old Matu Market test positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, Sept 8: Twenty-nine people linked to an eatery located at the old Matu Market have tested positive for Covid-19, sparking a new Covid-19 cluster which has been dubbed the Pasar Matu Cluster.

According to a report by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the Pasar Matu Cluster is a workplace cluster involving the owner and workers of an eatery located at the old Matu Market in Matu town.


At present, a total of 121 individuals have been swabbed with 82 testing negative and 10 individuals awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.

A second new cluster declared today is the Lemujan Cluster in Pakan, which saw 38 people testing positive for Covid-19. The community cluster centres on a longhouse in Lemujan.

A total of 42 people have been swabbed with four people testing negative.

SDMC said the longhouse has been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

The committee added Covid-19 patients from the Pasar Matu Cluster and Lemujan Cluster have been admitted to health facilities and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) in Sarikei and Sibu for treatment.

With this, there are presently 146 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, of which 11 reported 163 new cases today. — DayakDaily
