KUCHING, June 20: The new Batang Kayan Bridge in the Lundu Section of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway has opened to road users today.
As a symbolic gesture to officiate the 400m-long bridge, a ‘flag-off’ ceremony was held today with Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan as the guest of honour.
“The new bridge (Lundu-Kuching) is a new structure built to complete the existing bridge (which will be upgraded) under the scope of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project.
“Meanwhile, the contractors involved are committed to upgrading the existing bridge within two weeks,” said the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) in a press release.
During the event, Azizul hoped that road users would comply with the traffic rules that the contractor had prepared while upgrading works are underway.
He also hoped that road users would drive carefully and not exceed the speed limit.
“I hope that road users will be considerate when using this highway later and that there will be no more accidents caused by human negligence,” he said. — DayakDaily
