KUCHING, April 12: Asajaya is set to grow into a major satellite town if the Sarawak government adopts the proposed masterplan to construct an international airport and a deep sea port in Tanjung Embang, says Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Asajaya assemblyman revealed that the proposal includes the development of two key infrastructure projects in Tanjung Embang, supported by bridge networks that will connect to two artificial islands before extending to Tambirat and Sambir.
“If this proposed plan is implemented, the entire Asajaya area will naturally evolve into a major satellite town,” he told reporters during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Asajaya today. A video recording of his interview was later shared with the media.
Abdul Karim added that these projects—alongside the Coastal Road Network that passes through Asajaya—will uplift the region’s landscape, stimulate economic growth, and boost land values.
He stressed the importance of ensuring local communities are not left behind amid rapid development.
“In my speech, I emphasised that we do not want our people to be left out. As development progresses, they must grow along with it and benefit from the changes. One of the key ways to achieve this is through education,” he said.
He encouraged residents to enhance both their economic and intellectual capacities, noting that many from Asajaya have already made strides in higher education.
“From what I can observe, the people want development. With upcoming projects like the airport, the port, and the dual carriageway from Kampung Baru through Asajaya, this marks the beginning of something significant,” he added. — DayakDaily
