KUCHING, Aug 2: The construction of a new 8km access road connecting Kota Samarahan to Jalan Lapangan Terbang here is expected to be fully completed by September 2025, says Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

During a site visit to inspect the project today, Nanta said the road, classified as a federal road, will serve as a key alternative route to help ease traffic congestion along the busy Samarahan road corridor.

“I was made to understand that this project is expected to be fully completed by next month.

“As of now, the physical progress of the project has reached 96 per cent. The remaining four per cent involves the installation of road furniture and street lighting,” he said. An audio recording of Nanta’s remarks was shared to DayakDaily afterwards.

The RM112.9 million project comprises several key components, beginning with Road A, which includes the construction of a four-lane dual carriageway spanning 1km from the Stutong T-junction to the Stampin T-junction, followed by a 5.2km two-lane single carriageway stretching from Stampin to the Bukit Berangan T-junction.

Road B consists of a 1.7km two-lane single carriageway connecting the Stampin and Sungai Tapang T-junctions.

Other components include Roads C and D, which serve as internal linkages and involve the upgrading of the Stutong T-junction. The project also features three reinforced concrete bridges crossing the Kuap, Stampin and Sangkoh rivers, all of which have been completed.

A dedicated underpass has also been built to facilitate smoother traffic flow across the Kuching International Airport zone.

Implemented by the Ministry of Works through contractor Reka Ikhtiar Sdn Bhd and supervised by the Public Works Department (JKR), the project commenced on Aug 2, 2021.

Originally scheduled for completion on Aug 1, 2024, the revised date is now set for Nov 6, 2025, although progress is currently ahead of schedule. – DayakDaily
