Netizens grossed out by photos of unsanitary bakery ordered to shut down

KUCHING, Aug 7: A bakery in Kuching has been ordered to close due to grossly unhygienic conditions.

The premises located at Jalan Stampin, Batu Kawah was ordered to shut its doors by the Ministry of Health for two weeks from July 29 to Aug 12, 2020 due to its failure to comply with cleanliness requirements.


“I am very disappointed with the food operator as he or she is putting people’s health at risk,” Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian told DayakDaily.

He said to enforce food safety, the Health Ministry will need to step up inspection and surveillance.

“We also need the public to be our eyes and ears to come forward to report on such cases. It is for the benefit of all,” said Dr Sim.

Queasy pictures of the outlet showing greasy floors, grubby ovens, stained walls, unwashed trays and filthy table tops as well as pastry shelves have been making the rounds on social media.

There is also a picture showing packages food items being placed on dirty floors.

A purported video of the outlet is also making the rounds on social media. Apart from the above images, the video also shows dirty refrigerators and freezers, toilets and store room. — DayakDaily
